In this module, we recognize people experience trauma when our capacity to respond to experiences or circumstances in our lives is overwhelmed. In this module we will work to:

  • Build awareness of the potential impact of our lived experiences.

  • Explore how we can respond in ways that recognize the impact of our own and other’s lived experiences.

In this module, we will explore elements of a trauma-informed approach and how we can work together to facilitate healing. In this module we will work to:

  • Seek to understand and respond to the impact of trauma.

  • Explore how to integrate a trauma-informed approach in order to reduce harm and promote healing.

In this module, we are working towards a vision of resilience and thriving for all people when the following is collectively happening:

  • Healing and well-being is supported.

  • People's sense of agency, voice, participation and contribution are acknowledged, valued and engaged.

  • Barriers and inequities that people experience in their daily lives and in accessing services and support are removed.

In this module, we will work towards strategies for fostering solidarity and collective sustainability. To do this we will:

  • Learn about how we can be impacted by exposure to suffering and harm.

  • Develop strategies for taking care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.

  • Recognize how these concepts and strategies can guide us toward a more just society.

In this module, we will explore the concept of “cultural humility”. The approach of cultural humility goes beyond the concept of cultural competence to encourage individuals to identify their own biases and to acknowledge that those biases must be recognized. In this module, we discuss ways to:

  • Better understand culture, understand the impact of culture on families experiencing events and conditions that may be traumatic.

  • Recognize one’s own culture and its impact on serving families and embrace cultural humility and responsiveness as we work to support families.
