Using this Toolkit

To take the first step into integrating a trauma-informed approach, one must first grasp the profound impact trauma can have on our overall wellbeing and communities at large. This understanding forms the cornerstone of a system guided by accessible principles that can steward a path toward healing.

The six main Trauma-Informed Principles focus on:

  • Recognizing own trauma, beliefs, biases and strengths

  • Promotion of safe, stable, and trusting relationships.

  • Creating dependable healthy and compassionate places of work.

  • Empowering others while listening to stories that hold trauma and adversity in place.

  • Provide spaces for recovery to happen while meeting people where they are at.

  • Develop more inclusive spaces that promote curiosity and open-mindedness.

The invitation is to use this toolkit as a guide as you examine best practices for creating better ways to support and maintain trusting relationships that can foster a path to wellbeing. Use, question and adapt checklists suggested so that you can tailor them to your needs. Invite colleagues and other service providers for support; you can’t do this work alone.
